Worked example
Air sealing and blowing loose-fill insulation over a 1,200 sq ft attic.
Outcome: Generates ~$384/year in direct heating and cooling savings. Total installation cost is ~$1,680. After claiming the $504 federal tax credit (30%), the net out-of-pocket cost is $1,176. Simple payback period: 3.1 years (over a 30% annual return on investment).
