How to Calculate Masonry Paint Coverage on Brick & Stucco
Exterior brick and textured stucco consume 30% to 50% more paint than smooth siding due to deep mortar joints and porous surface texture. One gallon of breathable masonry acrylic covers only 200 to 250 sq ft on smooth brick and 150 to 200 sq ft on rough textured stucco. For a 1,200 sq ft brick facade requiring two coats, plan for 10 to 12 gallons of masonry paint.

Why Brick Needs Breathable Mineral or Elastomeric Paint
Brick and mortar constantly absorb and release vapor from interior living spaces. Applying standard impermeable film-forming paints traps moisture inside the brick, causing freeze-thaw spalling (brick face popping off) in winter. Always specify vapor-permeable mineral silicate paint or breathable masonry acrylics.
