Formula
Trim Area (sq ft) = Linear Feet × (Trim Width ÷ 12); Quarts/Gallons = (Area × Coats × Waste) ÷ 350

Worked example
Applying 2 coats of semi-gloss interior trim enamel to 120 linear feet of baseboards.
Outcome: Trim surface area is 52.5 sq ft. Two coats equals 105 sq ft. With 15% waste (120.75 sq ft effective), paint demand is 0.35 gallons (1.4 quarts). Recommendation: 2 single quarts or 1 gallon can.
What paint sheen is best for baseboards and trim?
Semi-gloss or satin enamel is standard for baseboards and trim because it provides superior scuff resistance, moisture barrier protection, and is easy to wipe clean.
