Linear Shelf Ft = (Closet Width In ÷ 12) × Shelf Count; Brackets = Ceil(Linear Ft ÷ 2.5) + End Cleats

Worked example

Outcome: Requires 6 linear ft of 12" top shelf, 9 linear ft of heavy-duty chrome hanging rod (3 ft top + 3 ft bottom shirts + 3 ft long coats), 1 vertical center divider tower panel, and 4 shelf/rod support brackets.

What is the minimum closet depth needed for hanging clothes?

Standard clothes hangers are 17 to 18 inches wide. With bulky coats, clothes require at least 22 inches of clear depth (24 inches is the universal standard) so clothing sleeves do not get crushed in the closet door.
