Total Sq Ft = Length × Width × (1 + Waste %); Cartons = Ceil(Total Sq Ft ÷ Carton Sq Ft)
1. Net Area = Length × Width 2. Total Area with Waste = Net Area × (1 + Waste %) 3. Boxes = Ceil(Total Area ÷ Box Sq Ft) 4. Perimeter Shoe Molding = 2 × (Length + Width)

Worked example
Laying 100% waterproof rigid core SPC flooring packed in 20 sq ft cartons with 10% waste factor.
Outcome: Net floor area is 252 sq ft. Adding 10% waste equals 277.2 sq ft. Dividing by 20 sq ft/carton yields 13.86 cartons, rounding up to 14 full cartons (280 total sq ft). Perimeter molding: 64 linear ft.
Do I need acclimation time for SPC rigid core vinyl planks?
While SPC has superior dimensional stability compared to laminate or hardwood, manufacturers still recommend letting boxes rest in the climate-controlled installation space for 48 hours.
